My sketchbook sat untouched for 8 months after I typed one prompt into an app
I used to draw every day. Not good stuff, just little doodles of my cat and coffee cups and weird faces in the margins of receipts. When I got a tablet 3 years ago I was so excited, I filled almost 60 pages in 4 months. Then around January I tried one of those image apps out of curiosity and typed in "cat drinking coffee, sketch style." It spat out something in 12 seconds that looked better than anything I had ever made by hand. After that my sketchbook just sat there on my desk. Every time I thought about drawing I heard this little voice saying why bother, the machine does it faster. What finally snapped me out of it was my nephew asking me to draw him a dragon, and I pulled out the tablet and froze up completely. I realized I was not avoiding the work, I was avoiding the feeling of being bad at something. Now I try to draw one thing a day before I touch any app, even if it looks like garbage. Curious if anyone else here went through a stretch where AI stuff made them quit their own hobby for a bit and how you got back into it.
