Noticing how AI art copies existing artists

I tried generating images in a famous painter's style. It feels wrong that the AI can mimic their work without permission.

Seriously... artists have been copying each other's styles forever though. The AI is just a tool like a paintbrush or camera. Feels weird but it's not stealing actual artwork, just learning patterns. People get too worked up about new tech sometimes.

Yeah but @terrypalmer, my stick figures are so bad even the AI wouldn't wanna copy my "style". Guess my art career is safe for now, huh?

Honestly I used to agree with the tool argument... until I saw an AI copy this living artist's exact color blends and brush stroke tricks. It's not like a person studying their work, it's the program scraping thousands of their images to make perfect fakes. That just feels different from a human being inspired by someone. The artist never agreed to have their whole style used like that.
