My chatbot answered 300 questions at 2am and I realized I trust it more than my own memory
I set up a little homemade chatbot on my laptop last month just to mess around with some open source models, and by Sunday night it had logged 300 questions from me alone, everything from torque specs to what time the hardware store in Mesa closes. What got me was when I asked it about a permit rule I have looked up maybe fifty times, and it gave me the right answer in two seconds while I was still trying to remember the page number. Does anyone else feel weird about how fast we hand our thinking over to these things, or is it just me?
Wait, 300 questions in one night? That's not messing around, that's a full on relationship with the thing. I get the permit thing though, that bugged me reading it because I've done the same kind of dance with stuff I look up over and over. The second you stop trusting your own head and start trusting the machine, that's a real shift. It's not even about the bot being right, it's about how fast you quit trying to remember. Two seconds versus fifty lookups, your brain just takes the easy path every time. That part is what gets me, not the tech itself.
