Warning: I let an AI plan my vacation itinerary last month and it was a mess

So we went to Austin Texas, me and my wife, and I thought hey let me use one of those trip planner AIs to save time. Uploaded our dates and said we like food and music. It gave us this schedule that had us walking 8 miles between BBQ spots in 100 degree heat. Day one we were dead. Also it booked us a reservation at a place that closed permanently in March. My wife was not happy. Has anyone actually gotten one of these to work right for a real trip?

@jenny_coleman I get what you're saying but I actually don't think it's that hopeless. The key is you gotta treat the AI like a dumb assistant that needs real specific instructions. I used one for a weekend in Chicago and instead of just saying "food and music" I told it "only recommend places that opened before 2019 and have over 4 stars on both Google and Yelp" and then manually checked the hours myself. It saved me a ton of scrolling through blogs honestly. The walking route problem though is real, the AI has no clue about that Texas heat or the fact that a block in Chicago during winter feels like ten miles. You kinda have to build in common sense that the machine doesn't have yet.

laughed out loud at "booked us at a place that closed in March" because that tracks perfectly with trusting a machine to know what's actually open. my buddy let one plan his Portland trip and it sent him to three different food carts that had moved locations six months ago, plus a "scenic walking route" that went right through a homeless encampment. told him to stick to Google Maps and Yelp like the rest of us, at least those are run by humans who mess up in predictable ways.
