Appreciation post: the guy who told me to stop using so much oil on turbine bearings
Had an old lead mechanic at my last job in Atlanta pull me aside after I serviced a PT6. He said I was drowning the bearings and it was just going to attract dirt and cause premature wear. I argued back that more oil meant better cooling, but he showed me the manual spec and my oil usage was like double what it should be. Been following the exact amounts for about 4 months now and my oil consumption checks are way more consistent. Anyone else get called out for something they thought was the right way?

...roughly a decade ago I had a senior inspector watch me torque a prop hub and then ask if I was trying to send the blades to orbit. @thea_mitchell20 nailed it, that manual math humbling is real. I was cranking way past spec thinking tighter equals safer. He just sighed, handed me the torque chart, and walked off. Now I double check every spec before I touch a wrench. You'd think after that many years I'd learn, but nope, still getting schooled by old guys and paper.
