Ran security wire next to line voltage for 8 years before a service call in Dayton made me see it
Honestly I used to zip tie my alarm keypad wire right alongside the 120v romex because it saved me time and looked clean in the panel. About 2 months ago I got called back to a house in Dayton where the keypad kept throwing random trouble codes every time the AC kicked on. I stood there for 45 minutes swapping keypads and checking resistors before it hit me that I'd run the data wire parallel to the power feed for about 20 feet. Moved that run just 6 inches away from the line voltage and the codes vanished, been doing it right ever since. Back when I started in 2006 we ran everything separate as a habit, somewhere along the way I got lazy and it never bit me until it did. Now I'm curious how many other installers out there have a run they know is sloppy but works fine, so they just leave it.
