Why do appliance makers use so many different screw types?

It slows down every repair when I have to switch tools constantly.

It's a feature, not a bug. They're just gently encouraging you to buy a new one instead of fixing the old. The tool hunt is part of the fun.

Apple used pentalobe screws on the iPhone 4, making it a pain to open. Honestly, it feels like every company copies that move now. What's the end game here, just endless upgrades? Tbh, I waste so much time looking for torx bits or whatever. Ngl, it makes me miss when things were simpler to fix.

Ugh, tell me about it. I spent an hour just looking for the right bit to open my dishwasher, it's ridiculous. logan_allen68 nailed it with the 'feature not a bug' thing, they really don't want us fixing stuff. Now I have a drawer full of tools I only use once a year, lmao.
