Drove 40 miles to a dark sky spot in Utah and my neighbor's porch light ruined the whole thing
So last Saturday I packed up my scope and drove out to a spot near Torrey, Utah that a guy at the local astronomy club told me about. Supposed to be Bortle 2, basically no light for miles. I get there, set up, wait for my eyes to adjust, and there it is on the horizon. Not a town. Just one porch light on one house about a quarter mile off the road. I swear it was brighter than the whole Milky Way. I sat there for 20 minutes trying to pretend it did not bother me. It bothered me. Anyone else got a favorite dark spot that got wrecked by one random light?
