Warning: A lube tech in Tulsa told me to stop using impact wrenches on lug nuts, and half my bay agreed with him
Last month a lube tech at my shop in Tulsa watched me zip off a set of lug nuts with my 1/2 inch impact and told me I was stretching studs and warping rotors on every car. I laughed it off since I have done it that way for 14 years, but then our comeback rate on brake jobs went up 3 cars in a single pay period. Now I torque by hand on anything with hub centric rotors, but two guys in my bay say that is a waste of time and impacts do not warp anything. What do you all do, impact everything and re torque, or break them loose by hand first?
