Unpopular opinion: bailing early on a bad date is rude, but staying out of pity is worse
Last month I met this guy at a ramen spot in Denver and about 20 minutes in he started quizzing me on my credit score, like asking me to guess what his was and saying he only dates people above 700. I excused myself to the bathroom and sat there debating whether to just fake a headache or come back and give him a real chance. I came back, he did it again, and I said I wasn't feeling it and left before the food even came. My roommate says I should have stayed and at least finished the meal, but I feel like sitting there pretending was the bigger lie. Where do you all land on this, is walking out mid-date fair game or should you always see it through?
The credit score thing would have been my cue too, that is not a date, that is a job interview. I have walked out on a guy who spent 30 minutes ranking his exes, and I told the waitress on my way out to box up whatever was ready because I was not wasting the food. You gave him more than one chance when you came back from the bathroom, so leaving before the ramen showed up is fair game. Your roommate can eat the meal next time if it means that much to her.
