Everyone says it's a must-do trail, but I found it too packed and loud. The constant stream of hikers took away from the natural feel I look for on a trip.

I actually enjoyed the buzz at Colchuck Lake last September. Seeing so many people out there enjoying the mountains gave it a shared, festive feel. Sometimes a popular trail has its own kind of magic.
