Got caught in a hailstorm on the Four Pass Loop and now I pack a bothy bag everywhere
I was up near Trail Rider Pass in Colorado last August when a storm rolled in out of nowhere and my 3 season bag got soaked through in about 10 minutes. A guy from Denver I met at camp pulled out this tiny orange bothy bag and we both sat in it for 40 minutes while golf ball sized hail bounced off the top. Now I never leave it at home, even on day hikes. What's the one piece of emergency gear you won't hike without?
