Just realized I've hiked over 500 miles on the same pair of boots

I was cleaning my gear after a trip on the Lost Coast Trail and noticed the soles were getting thin. I checked my trail log and added up all the trips since I bought them. It came to 512 miles. That's a lot of dirt, rain, and sun. These boots have been through the Sierra Nevada, the Oregon coast, and a muddy week in the Smokies. I never expected a single pair to last this long without a major issue. It makes me think about how we talk about gear lasting maybe 300 miles. Has anyone else had a piece of gear far outlive what you thought it would?

Guess you missed the memo about planned obsolescence. My last pair gave up after 200 miles (and a lot of complaining).

Planned obsolescence is a real thing, but @paigem45, 200 miles is actually pretty good for most running shoes (the foam just wears out). Might have just been a bad pair.

Maybe @robinson.wren is right and you just got a lemon.
