I used to defend the 2016 Ghostbusters remake in every argument, now I just hand people my Blu-ray of the original and walk away
Back when the 2016 Ghostbusters came out I was 24 and working nights at a warehouse in Fresno, and I got into like 4 separate Facebook fights in one weekend defending it because I thought people were just mad about ladies in jumpsuits. I watched it twice in theaters and told myself the Chris Hemsworth stuff was funny and the cameos worked. Now I pop in the 1984 one, the one my dad taped off cable with the commercials still in it, and by the time they get to the library ghost I'm sitting there thinking why did they green screen every single ghost in the remake when the original did it with puppets and a guy in a suit. The remake blew like $144 million and the original cost $30 million and you can feel every dollar of that gap in a bad way. What got me was the scene where they fight the big bad in the middle of Times Square, no buildup, no joke landing, just noise. My kid watched both with me and said the old one felt like a real place and the new one felt like a commercial, and I didn't have a comeback for that. Did the 2016 one have any defenders who actually stuck with it or did everyone fold like I did?
