My aunt named her three-legged rescue cat Tripod and I finally snapped at Thanksgiving
I know this is gonna get me roasted here, but I honestly think punny names for disabled pets are kind of mean and nobody wants to say it. My aunt in Springfield got a rescue cat two Novembers ago, a sweet orange guy who lost a back leg after a car got him, and she named him Tripod without blinking. The whole family laughed at Thanksgiving dinner and I just sat there because that cat flinches every time someone says his name too loud, or at least that is how it looks to me. I get that joking about it can be a way to deal with a hard thing, and I am not saying she is a bad owner, the cat sleeps in her lap every night. But that name is basically a label about the worst day of his life, and he is gonna hear it 20 times a day for the next 15 years. Am I being too sensitive here or does anyone else think the silly names should maybe skip the part where the pet got hurt?
