Hot take: I blew $180 on a standing desk and now I sit down even more
Bought a used Uplift desk off a guy in Mesa for $180 back in spring, thinking it would fix my back and make me feel like one of those productivity guys on YouTube. Turns out I raise it to standing for maybe 11 minutes, then I get tired and mash the button back down, and somehow I sit worse than before because now I'm slouched in a fancy chair. My wife says I bought a $180 button that I press twice a day. Anyone else drop real cash on something that was supposed to fix a habit and just made the habit fancier?
My buddy sent me a study from some ergonomics journal that said people who get standing desks only actually stand about 20 to 30 minutes a day on average. So your 11 minutes is right in line with everyone else, ha. The desk was never the fix, it's the reminder that gets ignored. I read somewhere that the real trick is a timer that forces you up every 30 min, but who actually does that. We all just buy the button and feel productive for a week.
