My hot take on charging for cut planning time

I think barbers should get paid for the chat before the haircut starts. Lots of folks say it turns people away, but our advice is part of the job. What do you guys think?

Heard some mechanics charge just for looking at the car first.

Actually, my buddy who's a tailor always charges for fitting consultations. He says measuring and talking about style takes real time and skill. People used to complain, but now they see the value in a well-planned suit. It's like that with haircuts too, the chat isn't just small talk. If you're paying for expertise, the planning part should count. Makes sense to me that barbers should get paid for that time.

Barber chats always seemed like just killing time to me. But comparing it to a tailor's fitting shows the skill involved in planning. Paying for that expertise makes total sense after all.
