Showerthought: Sorting my home workshop shelf showed me my barber station was all wrong
I was cleaning up my workshop at home... tools were everywhere, and it slowed me down. After I grouped similar items together, finding what I needed got so much faster. It made me look at my barber station... my clippers and shears were just tossed in a drawer. Now I have them laid out by step, and haircuts feel smoother. Funny how a simple home fix can change your whole shop rhythm.

Totally get this. Used to believe having all my combs and spray bottles just within arm's reach was good enough. Setting them up in the actual order I use them, like you did, cut my cleanup time in half somehow.

The brain actually wastes a lot of energy on small choices. Putting your shears, then comb, then spray in a set line removes those tiny decisions. You stop thinking about what to grab next and just move. It makes the whole job feel less tiring, not just faster.

Back in my old studio, I lined up my brushes, palette, and water cup exactly how I use them. It cut down on so much mental clutter (like, I didn't have to stop and think between strokes). My sessions felt smoother and I could work for longer without feeling drained. It's funny how such a small change makes a big difference in energy levels.

Honestly, @david_adams, that reminds me of when I used to cook big meals. I'd lay out all my spices and chopped veggies in the order I needed them. It meant I wasn't scrambling to find the cumin while the onions burned, and the whole thing felt way less stressful. Even though it's just cooking, that kind of setup saves so much brain power for the actual timing and stirring.
