My new guy asked why I charge $85 for a tune-up and I almost got mad, then I did the math
He started at the shop in March and last Tuesday he asked me straight out why our tune-up is $85 when the place down the street does $45. I got defensive, but then I actually added it up on the back of a work order: two hours of labor, new cables at $12, a chain check, minor wheel true, and test rides. The part that got me is he was not being cheap, he genuinely wanted to know what the customer is paying for so he could explain it at the counter. So now I write the checklist on the tag for every bike, and the pushback at pickup has basically gone away. My boss thinks it is overkill though, so how do you all show customers where the money goes without looking like you are making excuses?
