That $70 chain checker gadget I bought was a total waste of shop space

I picked up one of those fancy digital chain wear tools at a trade show in Portland last spring. Thought it would speed up my inspections and impress customers. Turns out it gave me wild readings on a clean drivetrain, said a brand new chain was stretched past 0.75. I compared it against my old Park Tool CC-2 and a basic ruler, and the ruler was spot on while the gadget bounced around. I ended up sending it back after three weeks and ate the shipping cost. Now I just use the ruler and a quick visual check, saves me time and zero hassle. Has anyone else had a fancy tool fail that hard, or am I just cursed with bad luck?
