TIL that old Park Tool truing stand I got for $40 off Facebook Marketplace is way better than my new $200 one
Fixed a wobble in a 3 year old wheelset on that old stand in 10 minutes while the new one kept flexing on me, has anyone else found that older Park Tool stuff just lasts longer?

Old Park Tool stuff is built like a tank, no question about it. I picked up a Park Tool stand that was probably from the 80s at a garage sale for twenty bucks, and it's still rock solid after I've built dozens of wheels on it. Meanwhile my buddy bought one of their newer models a couple years ago, and the adjustment knob stripped out within six months. It's like they're not making things to last the same way anymore, maybe they cut corners to keep the price down. That old stand you scored is a keeper for sure, those metal castings just don't flex like the new plastic and thin aluminum stuff does.

The stripped knob thing? Easy fix. Take it apart and tap the hole for a helicoil, costs like ten bucks and it's stronger than factory. Or just swap in a stainless steel bolt of the same thread pitch, lasts forever if you grease it first.
