Tried waxing my chain in a crockpot and got a mess I did not expect
I run a small repair shop in Duluth and finally gave in to the waxed chain trend last week. I picked up a cheap crockpot at a thrift store for 8 dollars and melted down a block of paraffin I had in the shop. The first chain came out looking great, but when I put it back on the bike the shifting felt stiff for the first 20 miles. Turns out I left way too much wax on the outer plates and it was grabbing the derailleur cage. I scraped the excess off with a plastic scraper and it ran smooth after that. Has anyone else run into this, or do you just wipe the chain down before it cools?
