Hated subtitles for years, now I refuse to watch without them
I used to think subtitles were only for people who couldn't hear or were watching in another language, but after my wife put them on for one episode of Dark on Netflix back in 2019, I never turned them off again. Now if a show doesn't have them, I get annoyed because I miss half the dialogue with action scenes, has anyone else hit this switch?

Funny enough, my dog started barking at the TV one night during a quiet scene and I couldn't hear a single word... turned out the subtitles saved the whole episode for me. Now I'm hooked, but I still get weird looks from my buddies when they come over and see them on.

Ha, that's honestly the best reason I've heard for turning them on! I actually think there's a whole hidden level to subtitles people miss, like they force you to read the dialogue differently and you catch jokes or lines you'd normally zone out on. @craig.sage, your dog basically unlocked a better way to watch TV for you, but the real trick is it gets you into the habit of paying attention to the writing, not just the picture.
