My buddy swore skipping episode 1 of The Leftovers was fine
He told me the first episode was boring and I wouldn't miss anything. I skipped it and started episode 2 completely lost about the whole premise. Had to go back and watch it anyway after wasting 45 minutes confused. Has anyone else gotten bad skip-advice that backfired hard?

Actually the polar bear shows up in the very first episode of Lost.

No way, that's such bad advice lol. The first episode of The Leftovers is literally the whole setup, like you need to see the global panic and the way people just disappeared to understand why everyone is so messed up. My sister once told me I could skip the first two episodes of "Lost" because they were just "people on a beach," and I spent like three seasons confused about why anyone cared about the polar bear or the smoke monster. I swear some people just want to seem cool by saying they skip stuff, but they're just making it harder for everyone else. It's like telling someone to skip the first chapter of a book, you'd be lost forever.
