Wait, you actually skipped the musical episode in Buffy? That episode is like, a huge part of the show's legacy. It has big plot twists and character moments you can't just miss. Same with stuff like the musical bit on Scrubs, those episodes are iconic for a reason. Skipping them for pace just cuts out the heart of the show. I get wanting to keep things moving fast, but that feels like missing the point. Some episodes are worth the slow down, no matter what.

My friend tried that with Buffy, said it actually worked.

I get wanting to keep the pace up, but skipping the musical episode in Buffy cuts out important character growth. Those songs aren't just filler, they show how the characters really feel when they can't say it out loud. My first watch, I almost skipped it, but I'm glad I didn't because it made the season's end make so much more sense. For example, Tara's song hints at problems with Willow that become big plot points later on.
