From my bench, a worn hammer feels better in hand than any fancy new model
I think the balance and grip on a beat-up hammer you're used to beats out buying the latest high-tech version.

God yeah, that's how I feel about my old work boots. The leather's all soft and formed to my feet, and the sole is worn down just right so I don't slip. A brand new pair just feels stiff and wrong, like they're fighting you. Honestly, sometimes the broken-in stuff just works with you instead.

My old Doc Martens took a full year to break in, but now they're perfect. Christopherjackson is right about that cardboard feeling with new boots, it's like your feet need to teach them how to walk. The good ones just get better when they stop being new.

My dad's old steel-toes from the 90s are like that. The leather cracked in all the right spots, and the insoles molded to his feet over years. I tried breaking in new ones once, and it felt like walking on cardboard for weeks. Maybe it's just me, but that worn-in comfort is worth more than any shiny new pair.
