I finally quit eyeballing heat colors and bought a $40 infrared thermometer
For about 6 years I judged my steel by color alone in a dim shop in Tulsa, squinting at that cherry red and guessing every time. My buddy loaned me his infrared thermometer and it showed me I was quenching 80 degrees cold on most of my 1084 blades. Anybody else find a cheap tool that showed you how far off you really were?
