I was 24, holding a tape measure wrong in front of three guys twice my age, and one of them just laughed and said that line. Half of me wanted to argue that nobody ever taught us, and the other half knew he was right. Now I wonder which it is: did older guys hoard the skills, or did we just not bother to learn them?
