Blamed Millennials for housing costs, then my own spreadsheet called me out

I used to post all the time about how my generation got priced out by Boomers buying rentals. Then last month I pulled up my own bank statements and saw I'd spent $11,400 on DoorDash and Amazon over two years. That's a down payment on a cheap trailer in Tulsa. Never once did I check what my rent would be if I skipped the convenience fees for six months. Has anyone else done the math and found out their own spending was the bigger villain?

Real talk though, "we all lie to ourselves" hit me hard cause that's exactly what I kept doing with my last credit card. I'd tell myself "I'll pay it off next month" every single month for like a year. What finally helped was I set up an automatic transfer the day after payday, even if it was just $50. It sounds dumb but making it not optional changed everything. Also I stopped checking my balance every day cause that just made me anxious and I'd spend more to feel better. You gotta trick your brain into treating savings like a bill you can't skip.
