Skeptical when my uncle in Boise said he retired at 58 on a warehouse salary
He worked at a food distribution plant for 31 years. Never made more than $52k. I figured he was lying or had help from his wife.
Then he showed me his binder. Every paycheck stub since 1994. He put 18% into his 401k from day one, drove the same Tacoma for 19 years, and never had a car payment after 2005.
I'm 34 and have $4k saved. My generation gets blamed for not buying houses but nobody taught us this stuff.
Did your parents or grandparents ever sit you down and show you actual numbers like this? Or did you figure it out on your own?
