Unpopular opinion: My dad's 'no dessert unless you finish all veggies' rule backfired on me
Tbh I always thought that rule was just controlling, but my roommate in Chicago pointed out it actually taught me portion control. She said her parents let her eat whatever and now she struggles with knowing when to stop. It hit different because at 27 I realize I've never had a weight problem while she's spent $300 on diet programs. Anyone else secretly grateful for a strict food rule they used to hate?
Sounds more like your roommate just needs to learn some self control, not that your dad's rule was some magic trick. Plenty of people grow up with strict food rules and end up with messed up eating habits too. One person's experience doesn't really prove much either way.
