I thought Lords of Waterdeep was just D&D nerds doing paperwork until my buddy made me play 4 rounds at his place in Boise
My friend Kevin has been telling me for 2 years that Lords of Waterdeep is the best worker placement game. I kept blowing him off because the box looks like a spreadsheet and I figured it was just D&D people pushing cubes around to feel busy.
Finally went over to his place in Boise last month. We played 4 rounds back to back. By round two I was blocking his harbor spots on purpose and by round four I was ready to buy my own copy. The quest cards are what got me. You read a little line about sending adventurers to clear out a haunted mine and suddenly the cube pushing feels like a story.
I've played maybe 30 games since. Won 9 of them. Still not sure if that means I'm good or Kevin is just bad at hiding his plans.
What game did you write off as boring and then eat your words over? Curious if anyone else had a friend basically force a game on them like this.
