My buddy's house rule about dice trays flipped our whole group dynamic
We've been meeting every other Friday at Mike's place in Akron for almost two years now. Last session he pulled out these cheap felt-lined trays he got for $8 each and said anyone rolling on the table has to buy the next pizza. We all laughed, but after three straight games of dice knocking over half our player boards and landing in someone's drink, we gave in. Turns out not chasing runaway d20s every five minutes makes the game move way faster. We got through two full games of a heavy euro that normally eats our whole night. Now I'm wondering if I should bring trays to the local game cafe meetups too, or if that's just overstepping into other people's table habits. Has anyone else had a simple accessory rule change how their group plays more than any actual rulebook house rule?
Bringing trays to a game cafe is different from bringing them to Mike's basement. At a cafe, you're using their tables and their space, so pulling out your own gear can come off like you're saying their setup is bad. Just ask the staff or whoever runs the night first, since some spots already have trays on hand.
