Vent: I used anti-seize on my boiler studs like everyone says, and now I'm torqueing at half spec
I work on a small 200 HP firetube in a school here in Spokane. A guy at the supply counter told me to coat the stud threads with anti-seize so they come apart easier next time, so I did. Came back 3 weeks later with a torque wrench and my numbers were all over the place, some studs kept turning past 220 ft-lbs even though the book says 180. I called the OEM rep and he said the lube cuts friction so my wrench is reading low, which means I stretched two studs and had to pull the front head back off. It cost me a Saturday and about $90 in new studs to fix my own shortcut. What do you guys do, dry torque and risk the rust, or use lube and just drop your wrench setting by some percent?
