That slow reading club I rolled my eyes at actually changed how I look at books

I joined a slow reading group six months ago where we take a whole month to discuss one chapter, and I thought it was just pretentious nonsense. Turns out catching details I always skimmed over made me enjoy the book way more, anyone else find a reading habit that surprised them?

The funny thing is slow reading's basically a lost skill in everyday stuff too. My neighbor zoomed through a recipe once and ended up adding salt three times. Take a step back and actually look at the ingredients, it's like seeing the whole dish differently. Same with that book chapter, you catch the little character tics or the way the weather sets a mood. It's wild how much we speed past just because we're used to rushing.

Right? @lunakim, rushing through stuff just means you gotta do it twice.
