Started checking paper grain religiously and it's a drag

I stopped cutting corners by skipping the grain direction step. Now my books don't warp, but I feel like I'm moving at a snail's pace. Anyone found a balance between quality and speed here?

Ugh, I totally get the 'snail's pace' thing. I used to hate checking grain direction too, it felt like such a waste of time. What helped me was making a simple template for my most common paper sizes. I mark the grain direction on the template once, then just line up the paper quickly each time. It cuts the checking time in half and my projects still turn out straight. Now I only do the full check for weird paper, which is rare. Honestly, it saved my sanity without messing up the quality.

Is grain direction (seriously) such a big deal for every project?
