The guy next to me on a 6am bus to Newark put me onto a show I still think about
I was on a cramped 6am bus from Philly to Newark last month, two seats over from a guy who had earbuds in but kept glancing at my phone screen while I scrolled. Eventually he just leaned over and said "if you're looking for something to watch, try Severance, it'll ruin your commute in the best way." I'd skipped it like four separate times because the trailer felt slow, but I started it that night in my tiny apartment and burned through the first season in three days. The way the office scenes are shot made me feel boxed in too, which honestly hit different on a 90 minute bus ride. Has a random stranger ever put you onto a show you would've skipped otherwise?
I once had a guy at a laundromat tell me to watch The Bear while I was folding socks, and I nodded like sure dude then went home and ignored it for two months. My sister finally made me watch it and I finished the whole first season in a weekend, yelling at my TV during that one episode with the ticking clock. So now every time some rando gives me a rec I write it in my notes app like it's a doctor's order, because clearly I can't be trusted to pick stuff on my own. Severance is one I still haven't touched though, mostly because I know it'll eat my whole brain for a week. A 6am bus is a weird place for good advice but honestly those early morning people have nothing else to do but get deep.
