My foreman told me to stop soaking my bricks in 90 degree heat and I actually listened
My foreman told me last Tuesday on a job in Tucson to quit dunking bricks in the water barrel because the mortar was sliding all over the place in the heat. I argued with him for 20 minutes about it because that's how I was taught, but I tried it his way for the rest of the wall and the mortar set up way cleaner. Any of you work in crazy heat, and do you soak or not?
Did the mortar really need the extra water from wet bricks in that kind of heat, or was the mix just too wet to begin with? In Tucson you're fighting the sun no matter what, so maybe his way just worked better because dry bricks pull water out of the mortar and firm it up faster. Not saying soaking never helps, but a foreman with years in that heat probably has a reason for saying what he did.
