Hot take: Those super cheap frozen veggie mixes are actually decent

I always bought fresh veggies thinking frozen was gross and mushy. Then my budget got tight last month and I grabbed a $1.29 bag of mixed peas and carrots from the discount store. Honestly, they held up fine in my stir fry and I didn't notice a difference. Has anyone else found a cheap frozen product that surprised you?

That frozen bag of peas and carrots is basically the same as the fresh ones if you're cooking them into something anyway. The texture difference really only matters if you're eating them raw in a salad or something. Broccoli florets and green beans hold up surprisingly well too if you don't overcook them. I swear by the frozen spinach blocks for adding to soups and curries, you can't tell the difference once it's all mixed in.

oh fr, @simons28 knows what's up! i saw some study that said frozen veggies actually keep more nutrients than fresh ones that sit in the fridge for days, so it's honestly kinda better for you in some cases.

I used to be one of those people who turned their nose up at frozen veggies, but I agree about the spinach blocks. Once you thaw them and squeeze out the water, they are perfect for sauces and soups with no mushy texture at all.
