I kept a note on my phone for every coffee, bus fare, and hostel night, mostly because my sister kept saying budget travel was impossible. Turns out the hostel bunk at $34 a night plus grocery store dinners did most of the work, and the one splurge was a $15 book at Powell's. What is the one thing you refuse to cut even when you are pinching pennies on a trip?
