Warehouse club trial in Tulsa made me question my whole grocery budget

I hit up a Costco near Tulsa last weekend just to see what the hype was about, their one day trial pass. Walked out with a $240 cart of stuff I didn't plan on buying, all because the bulk prices felt too good to pass up. But here's the thing, when I added up what I actually use in a month, like mayo and paper towels, I'd save maybe $18 total. That's before the $65 yearly fee and the drive across town eats gas. Then I looked at the unit prices on some snacks and they were barely cheaper than my regular grocery. Got me wondering if anyone else has done the math on these memberships and found they're just for big families or storage freaks? Has anyone actually broken even on a basic membership with just one or two people?

Thing is, you keep forgetting the other stuff. The gas savings alone from filling up at their station pays for the membership if you drive a normal amount. Plus they price match their own sales with coupons, which nobody talks about. The rotisserie chicken is like a weekly dinner for $5, cheaper than any fast food or grocery deli. And the return policy is stupid generous, you can bring back anything even half used. The math shifts when you aren't just counting mayo and paper towels. You gotta shop the whole store, not just the bulk aisle.
