The 2023 planner expo in Portland flipped my whole setup, but I still miss the old way

I went to the big planner conference last October and watched a girl do a rapid log with just a pencil and a sticky note system. She had no index, no future log, nothing fancy. Honestly it worked way better than my 4 color coded collections ever did, but now I find myself flipping back and forth between that minimal style and my full decorated spreads. Is there a middle ground that actually sticks, or do you have to pick one and commit? Has anyone else been completely thrown off after seeing a totally different method in person?
