The "Baby On Board" sign that turned out to be a total lie on I-95
Last Tuesday I was stuck in dead stop traffic on I-95 near Newark for about 40 minutes because of a fender bender. The car ahead of me had one of those yellow "Baby On Board" signs suction cupped to the back window, so I figured there was a kid in there and I was extra patient about not honking. When traffic finally started moving, I watched the driver toss a cigarette butt out the window and speed off alone, no car seat, no kid, nothing. It got me thinking about how many of these signs are just excuses for bad driving rather than any real safety notice. I get that the sign started as a way to tell rescue workers there is a child in the car, but plenty of people slap them up and then drive like nobody else exists. Do you all think these signs still mean anything, or have they just become another sticker people throw on and forget about?
