Why did I wait 5 years to try a ratchet strap for my canoe
I used to tie my canoe down with rope knots that took forever and always loosened by the time I hit I-95. Swapped to a $12 ratchet strap last fall after a buddy laughed at my mess on a fishing trip, now I'm secured in like 2 minutes flat. Anyone else have a gear upgrade that made you feel dumb for not doing it sooner?
Wow, the real trick is keeping a cheap backup strap in your glove box for when the main one gets twisted so bad you can't crank it! A tangled ratchet strap on the side of the road is way worse than the rope ever was, so learning to flip it flat before threading saves a ton of cussing. That one habit is what finally made the whole switch worth it for me.
