Our office download speed in 2016 was 3 Mbps and we thought that was fine
I was cleaning out old files last Tuesday and found our internet bill from 2016, and it showed we were paying $89 a month for 3 Mbps down. Three. Our whole office of 11 people shared that line, and we just planned around it, saving big files for after lunch and yelling down the hall when someone was on a call. Now I run a speed test on my phone out of habit and get 400 Mbps on the same floor for less money, but back then we honestly thought we were living in the future with a T1. The thing nobody talks about is we spent real hours waiting on uploads, probably 5 or 6 hours a person every week, and just called it normal. What was your office speed around 2016, and did you ever actually measure how much time you lost to it?
One small thing, a T1 was only 1.5 Mbps, so if you truly had 3 Mbps you probably had a bonded pair of them or a different setup. That actually makes the story worse, because bonded T1s were not cheap and you were still sharing a trickle with 11 people. The lost hours part rings true to me, we scheduled our whole day around uploads back then and just acted like that was how work worked.
