SD-WAN trial went sideways, but now I get the hype
For two years I told our IT guy that SD-WAN was just a buzzword, until we lost a client meeting in Boise because our T1 kept dropping during a video call. Last month we finally ran a 60 day trial at our main office, swapping out the old router for a cloud managed setup. The failover kicked in during a fiber cut and nobody in the building even noticed, which honestly annoyed me at first. Then I looked at the usage reports and saw we saved about $340 in idle bandwidth that we never used before. The real kicker was when our branch in Portland synced files in 4 minutes instead of 22. Has anyone else had a vendor pitch that sounded like marketing fluff until the numbers proved them wrong? I'm still curious how much the monthly licensing eats into those savings over a year.
