That 'aged' beef shortcut at the distributor nearly cost me my license

I got a call from a guy I know at a wholesale place in Newark, said he could get me 'pre-aged' primals for half the price. Showed up, saw the cryovac bags had no actual aging date on them, just a handwritten sticker. Took one home, cut it open, smelled like gym socks and the meat was tacky. Turns out they were just old unsold inventory they repackaged. I almost put that in my display case. Anyone else deal with shady distributor tricks like that?

Not dramatic enough if you ask me. That's how restaurants get people sick.
