Hit 1,000 miles on my new commuter bike, worth every penny so far
Back in March I traded my bus pass for a used hybrid bike, $220 at a shop in Portland. Today my odometer hit 1,000 miles, which is about 4 months of riding to work and back. I wasn't sure I'd stick with it after the first rainy week, but the savings on fare alone cover the bike already. Anyone else track their miles and find the habit actually kept them going?

Funny how the little numbers add up and suddenly you've got proof of something. That odometer becomes a weird little motivator, like a game where you're always trying to beat yesterday. It's the same with any habit, once you see the progress on paper, quitting feels like losing. Rainy days get easier when you know the fare money is already in your pocket. Pretty sure that $220 bike just paid for itself twice over by now.
