Pro tip: the old lady on Oak Street taught me more about cable routing than any training video
Was running coax through a 1920s house in Dayton last Tuesday and she asked me to keep the lines away from her kitchen wall because her late husband built it himself. I spent an extra 20 minutes on a cleaner run behind the baseboard just because of how she asked, and she handed me a $10 tip and a glass of sweet tea on the way out. Anybody else got a customer who changed how you do a basic job?
That detail about the kitchen wall her husband built is what got me. She was not asking you to avoid a wall, she was asking you to be careful around something she still loved. I will gently say one thing though: an extra 20 minutes on a clean run is not really a favor, that is just doing the job like it should be done. Most guys rush it because nobody is watching, and she noticed you did not. The tea and the ten spot were her way of saying she saw the difference. Do you still route behind baseboards like that on every job now, or only when the homeowner is standing there watching?
