My camping stove flamed out on a crucial meal

Was cooking dinner and it just quit. Ended up eating cold beans straight from the can.

Honestly everyone jumps to fuel or clogs, but a lot of folks forget about basic stove care. Tbh that clean shutoff makes me wonder about the regulator or a tiny valve issue from leftover food gunk. Ngl, I've seen stoves act fine at home then quit in the field because someone never cleaned the burner head after their last trip. That cold bean dinner is the worst, usually a sign you skipped the post-camp scrub down. All that old grease and dirt bakes into a crust that eventually just blocks everything.

Read that clogged jets are a common stove problem.

Yeah but that sounds more like a slow loss of heat. When it just shuts off like a light switch, that's usually the fuel canister pressure. A clog would sputter and die, not just quit clean. I had the same thing happen last fall when the temperature dropped fast. You were probably down to the last bit of fuel and the cold made it worse. Try warming the canister in your hands next time, it's a night and day difference.
